About Helen

Senior experience. Expert HR knowledge. People at the centre.

Kindred HR is led by Helen Bilton, an experienced senior HR leader who combines expert HR knowledge with practical, people-centred judgement.

Helen has worked in complex and regulated environments, helping organisations navigate sensitive people matters, organisational change and employment risk while keeping both people and business priorities in view.

Her approach is collaborative, proportionate and grounded in the belief that there is rarely a one-size-fits-all answer to a people problem.

Kindred particularly works with purpose- and values-led organisations, where care for people and clarity about mission go hand in hand.

Experienced advice

Experienced advice should bring structure to difficult situations, connect people considerations to business priorities and support a practical way forward.

Good HR is rarely about applying a standard answer. It is about understanding the people, the facts, the risk and the wider priorities — then finding a proportionate way forward.

  • ReliableTimely, dependable support when people issues need attention.
  • People-centredFair and respectful solutions that recognise the individuals and relationships involved.
  • Business-orientatedPractical advice that considers risk, cost, capacity, culture and organisational priorities.

Why Kindred?

Kindred is about connection, shared purpose and understanding the people behind every decision.

Good HR is more than policies and process. It means balancing people, purpose and protection — helping organisations and individuals move forward with clarity, fairness and confidence.

For organisations

If any of these feel familiar, a conversation is usually the right place to start.

Many of the situations we support begin with uncertainty — a sense that something needs attention, but no clear brief yet. That is normal, and a good reason to talk.

For organisations

Common situations we support

  • A people issue needs attention. A grievance, disciplinary issue, workplace conflict or other sensitive people matter needs a clear and fair way forward.
  • Absence or workplace health is becoming difficult. You need support with sickness absence, workplace health, reasonable adjustments or helping someone return to work.
  • Performance or capability needs addressing. A manager needs a clear, proportionate approach to performance or capability concerns.
  • Change is affecting your organisation and people. You are navigating restructuring, organisational change or another situation where people and business priorities need to stay connected.
For employees

When work becomes difficult to navigate alone

Sometimes you simply need an independent perspective to understand what is happening and decide what to do next.

  • An important meeting is coming up.
  • You are unsure what a policy or process means.
  • You need to organise what has happened.
  • You have received correspondence and are unsure how to respond.
  • You are considering a grievance or appeal.
  • You are not sure what to do next.
For organisations

Further situations we regularly support

  • A sensitive investigation is needed. You need an independent, structured approach to understanding what happened and what should happen next.
  • Your policies or documents need attention. Contracts, policies, handbooks or management documents need reviewing, updating or bringing into line with current practice.
  • You need experienced HR capacity. Senior HR expertise for a project, a difficult case or additional support for your existing internal team.
  • Managers need support. Practical guidance or coaching to handle difficult conversations and people decisions confidently.

A practical way forward

Understanding the situation before deciding the next step

We take time to understand the context, the people involved and the business priorities. Recommendations follow from that, not the other way around.

For employees

Where conversations usually begin

  • An important meeting is coming up. You want help preparing for a workplace meeting and understanding the process before you go in.
  • You are unsure what a policy or process means. You need help understanding the relevant workplace policy, procedure or the options available to you.
  • You need to organise what has happened. You want help organising information or evidence so you can explain your situation clearly.
  • You have received correspondence and are unsure how to respond. Kindred can help you review workplace correspondence and think through a clear, appropriate response.
  • You are considering a grievance or appeal. You want practical support to understand the process and communicate your concerns clearly.
  • You are not sure what to do next. You would value an independent conversation before deciding how to move forward.

“A short conversation is usually enough to know whether we can help, and what the sensible first step looks like.”
